Can I register to vote?

Are you -

  • A United States citizen,
  • At least 18 years of age, or will be 18 on or before November 8,
  • Living in West Virginia,
  • NOT currently under conviction, probation or parole for any felony, treason or bribery, AND
  • NOT been judged mentally incompetent in a court of competent jurisdiction.

If you meet all 5 conditions above, you are eligible to vote! Applications can be submitted at any time but you must register to vote by April 17 in order to vote in the Primary Election and by October 16 to vote in the General Election.

How do I register to vote?

There are four basic options for registering to vote:

  • You can apply in person at the Jefferson County Courthouse located at 100 E. Washington St, Charles Town;
  • You can download a voter registration application and return the completed form by mail;
  • You can visit the DMV and register electronically there;
  • You can register online.
